Did Red Clay pay for a AVID trip to Orlando when Philly was closer ?

What is AVID?

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a global nonprofit organization that operates with one guiding principle: Hold students accountable to the highest standards, provide academic and social support, and they will rise to the challenge. AVID’s kindergarten through higher education system brings research-based curriculum and strategies to students each day that develop critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas. Learn more about the AVID SYSTEM.

AVID is the most appropriate partner to achieve student success in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). While the CCSS describes “what” students should know, AVID strategies provide “how” students will learn and master the knowledge and skills needed to meet the standards.

AVID Summer Institutes – #AVIDSI2016

Orlando (July 6-8)

JW Marriott/Ritz Carlton

4040 Central Florida Parkway

$189 Single/double

So Red Clay taxpayers spring for airfare to Orlando Florida when it wasn’t necessary whereas they could of save taxpayers money by waiting to attend, Philadelphia (July 18-20)!

AVID is all about holding “students” to the highest standards whereas the adults couldn’t wait to go to Philadelphia where they could have carpool.

AVID may be a good program but come on! Why Orlando and not Philadelphia

  1. Is that Orlando or your new back yard Kilroy?

  2. AVID is a good program. I was told the barrier to faster expansion was cost.

  3. That picture, Kilroy. That’s your explanation. Right there.

  4. But there is no place to cut costs in the school budgets. ?
Brandywine wants expensive turf fields for all its schools.
CSD pays exorbitant amounts for consultants to conduct nationwide Superintendent searches.
Red Clay pays for AVID junkets.
Mired in debt Chicago districts continue to spend on Administrative perks while academic performance continues to slide.

But it’s the bad old taxpayer who opposes referendums and large increases to the education budgets that is the real problem for education??

Sorry but the narrative just doesn’t hold. The fleecing needs to stop.

  5. Why can’t AVID use a train-the-trainer approach? Why does every teacher have to attend expensive AVID training to be able to follow the AVID method?

C’mon, O. Why have shiny objects and next big things if only a few can chase them? They ALL need to participate, lest some disgruntled soul might pull the curtain back and expose the ruse. AVID. Really? Even the name is a fraud. Nobody in the edstablishment believes in individual determination. Or advancement. That’s heresy! Advancement implies one is ahead of another — perish the thought! This is just another smoke generator, another instrument in the lullaby orchestra, another looking glass, rabbit hole perpetration of evil.

And besides, apparently, we’re not out of money yet. Why not spend it on this?
