OMG! Kilroy concedes to Senator Hocker re: start of school after Labor Day

I was just reviewing Red Clay’s 2016-17 calendar and have to admit, the school year should start after Labor Day.

The notion, let the kids get summer out of their system and get settled in before Labor Day has merit. However, it doesn’t make that much of a difference.

OMG! Delaware economy is down in the dumps and Hocker has a valid point re: the summer positive financial impact on the Delaware’s economy. As for kids, for many summer might be the only time the get to work!

    Summer is for 19th-century farmers.

  3. If there is to be a summer break, the timing should be a shared experience for all families in the state and also in neighboring states if possible. Some local control should be available for special programs by exception, but not for the general population.

Wow. Just wow. And we thought Bernie was the mostest socialist on the stage today?

Apply this to the Federal academic standards vs. state standards vs. the local standards.

Mike you just made the feds’, the states’, Rodel’s, and a plethora of educational professionals point about consistent standards.

“If there are to be standards, they should be shared standards throughout the state, region and nation. Some local control should be available for special programs by exception, but not for the general population.”

Doesn’t that sound like what we as a nation should be doing? I agree, the SBAC test is not the best test but, a common standard, which Common core attempts to be, is a goal for the country so that all students are covering similar materials at similar ages regardless of where they go to school. DO NOT CONFUSE COMMON CORE with the SBAC and the materials being sold to teachers and schools. The methods and materials being sold to schools and teachers are NOT, NOT, NOT, the same thing as Common Core. Common Core are academic standards. The materials and methodologies teaching how to present common core are the Gates affiliated Ponzi scheme.

    • Are you so sure about those Common Core standards M Ryder? To “achieve” those standards, one has to assume they were created by the right people and not those corporate Ponzi scheme reformers…

  4. How would Kilroy have reacted if the original plan had been introduced by Kim Williams or Kwacko?

  5. Please help me. I don’t quite understand. Unless a 53rd week is added to the calendar, if you start after labor day, you are going to go further into June. It’s the same number of summer days, no matter how you slice it. But I know Bernie can give us anything – so maybe a 53rd week is coming too.

LOL!!! If he says he will, Hill will rush to proclaim she offered it first.

Bernie will make sure it is “free” — to someone.

Just remember — “free” college is just that. Free. Not “charged to someone else”. Free.

I wonder if the teachers and adjuncts and maintenance staff and building constructors and “institutes” in our universities are interested in serving without compensation of any kind. If they are, then college could possibly be free. I wonder if these same folks support The Bern, or do they only feel it — like Icarus?
