Rep Val Longhurst forgets who cleans her office at the end of the day

148th General Assembly

House Bill 240

Primary Sponsor(s):

Longhurst

Additional Sponsor(s):    Rep. Heffernan & Sen. Poore & Sen. McDowell Reps. Bolden Brady Carson Jaques J. Johnson Lynn Matthews Mitchell Osienski Paradee Potter Schwartzkopf M. Smith Viola Sens. Blevins Bushweller Ennis Hall-Long Henry Marshall McBride Peterson Sokola Townsend

This bill establishes the Statewide Afterschool Initiative Learning Program. The Program will provide grants to public schools, that qualify as Title I schools, to develop afterschool engagement of students that will provide extended learning, homework assistance, enrichment, and nutrition.

After school hours, from 3-6 pm, is the most dangerous time for youth and crime, accounting for the peak time for youth to commit crimes or become victims of crimes. 11.3 million children are unsupervised in the United States after school. 28,292 kids in Delaware are on their own during the hours after school.

What a dumbass! After-school program for Title 1 students aka high poverty to keep them safe while mom and or dad are still at work, 3-6 p.m.. Doesn’t this lady have any fucking clue who mops-up, picks-up, cleans-up and makes sure all is in order for the white slave masters come morning? Also, the kids spend all fucking day in school and you want to add three more hours. “Peak time for youth to commit crimes” ! So keep all the black kids after schools so not to victimize whites! “Victim of crimes” !! They are victimized every morning they walk through the front door of their schools thanks to Governor Markell’s wrongheaded education agenda!

Val, I don’t see the fiscal note $$$$$. Once again state seed-money for two-years than more programs on the backs of local taxpayers!

Val, WTF are you doing! Doesn’t it make sense to wait until we see what happens with the Red Clay takeover of Christina’s schools?

Val, where is the transparency ?? You blocked legislation to require school boards to record board meeting! And who will be running these after school programs? Markell lap-dog minorities who stand shoulder to shoulder with him when he lies to parents. What about the Opt-Out Val? Folks, some of  these people are so fucked up in Dover! We need more reading teachers during the day not bullshit lego clubs after school. Val, if we can’t get it right during the day when students are rested what the F do you think we’ll do after school?

  1. This bill has red flags all over it! I eviscerated it earlier today myself: https://exceptionaldelaware.wordpress.com/2016/01/12/governor-markell-shuts-parents-out-again-sail-afterschool-program-has-dangerous-red-flags-beware/
Glad to know we are on the same page on this!

In a rare moment of misdirected intellectual curiosity, I read your latest diatribe, OK, and found it similar but more longwinded, as usual, than Kilroy’s. In defense of my moment of weakness, I was in search of, and of course found, a perfect example of you “fighting” the wrong battles to which I referred on the “Red Clay teachers stands with… ” thread.

While you and Kilroy fret and fume over the placement of the commas, the choice of “and” or “but” in the text, the Evil laughs at how easily you are distracted and just how simple it is to work its will!

The success of the socialists/progressives (Evil for short) is in no small part due to its remarkably wise use of incrementalism and patience and yes, distraction, to further its agenda. I have cited many cases of personally witnessing what I call (among other things) putting a few drops of poison in the water at each new turning point. In this case, I remind you of the standing ovation given to (help me Lord with the name) the superintendent whose brown shirt brigades infiltrate the maternity wards in Lake Forest with district logo onesies for all newborns and “counseling” for the new parents. What was that, three years ago? Scroll forward, mi amigo, to the upcoming conference on, what is it called, Your Child’s First 3,000 Days in the Arms of the State? Birth to 8 years. BIRTH. And still you are astonished at this good hearted program with the neat (h/t Pub) acronym???

Of course I won’t read the actual bill, not as long as I have .anything. else to do, but while you’re at it full tilt, what about the inevitable dinner meal? Besides being peanut free, what will they serve? Will there be choice? Can clean jammies and a nice warm cot be far behind? Will the unionized be assessed on sleep patterns? Sooooo many questions.

And what of the kids who go home to a “normal” situation at a normal hour? HOW WILL THEY EVER CATCH UP TO THESE ENRICHED KIDS WHO PUT IN AN EXTRA 15 HOURS A WEEK ON ACADEMICS?

Shooting fish in a barrel. It’s almost not any fun any more. The fish aren’t even moving within the barrel, and they are providing me with a scatter gun, not a rifle.

Can parents opt their kids out of SAIL?

  4. Is this something that would be mandatory? If it’s an option, then it sounds more like the Boys and Girls Club, which would be pretty great. I guess I won’t comment about it further yet, because I would agree that it sucks if it would be mandatory. But I am curious as to why Kilroy makes everything into a black and white thing. It sounds like it is more about an income level thing.. like low income kids getting help with homework, being fed, etc. Just wondering why you’re make it into a race thing?

I’ve given up trying to comprende Kilroy’s recent descent into madness vis a vis race. But I will try to bring mom back from the precipice vis a vis ” … like the Boys and Girls Club, which would be pretty great.” Yikes! Maybe you missed the part about SAIL (again, how cool will that look on your bumper?) being a “program” of the “government”? Created by the unknowing, administered by the unable, wreaking havoc where there was calm, and creating yet another cascade of fix, fail, fix, fail, fix, fail as is the case with every other. Oh wait, I forgot. In spite of all this potential downside in the day to day, it accomplishes the overarching goal of forcing kids out of the home and into the arms of benevolent government, minor failings of lesser intentions and results notwithstanding. Forget my opening. Press on. We need more vassals; and what better vassals than those born to it, never having seen the alternative.

  5. By the way, the only reason this caught my attention enough to comment, was that I was surprised how spot on it was from what I see in my neighborhood, and hear from other parents.. the timeline 3-6 pm is spot on for the time teenagers are getting into trouble. all of them, not just the black kids that paranoid Kilroy probably thinks everyone is out to blame

Might these be the teenagers that in my day were sweeping the grocery store floors and delivering the afternoon newspapers and mowing lawns and stuffing envelopes for the church newsletter and such? In part we did these things because our *gasp* parents not only knew that’s what we should be doing but, uh, “encouraged” us to do? Those teenagers? Before the days of “Govt knows best” it was Father knows best.” I’ll let you do the math yourself.

    • I thought that was why we spend so much on athletics and eper programs so as to keep kids out of trouble from 3-6?

Art, see “fix, fail, fix, fail, fix, fail” above for the obvious answer.

But “this time” they’ve got it right, right?

  6. Or why not have juniors and seniors in high school volunteer after school to help tutor the younger kids and mentor them also.

“Volunteer.” More like commandeer. Will they get “starting teacher salary” rates for their time? They should, as they will probably be as adept for the task as the freshly minted pony-tailed union dues payers they would replace. And, will these teens have to “volunteer” part of their wages to the Fred and Co.? And get automatic increases and bonuses based on location and retirement bennies and free dental for life?

See, Art, you’re describing what “brothers” and “sisters” used to do. You’re question absent punctuation betrays just how far we’ve sunk. Government as Family. Rock on.

  7. I was thinking more along the lines of how from September – December Sallies provided over 10,000 hours of time of juniors and seniors to Warner Elementary school doing just that.

OMG, are you -trying- to explode Kilroy’s head? Or maybe M’s? 😉

White, elite, BMW driving, over privileged private schoolers displaying their unfair enrichment and lording over a bunch of black kids that have been deprived by the parents of the former? Let me plug that into the equity formula. Wait. First thing I need in order to do so is the agency or department of government that coerced the volunteer effort. Thanks.
