  1. The title of the program is “the Delaware way” which is perfect for mike – let me own a building the state pays for.

  2. The first thing to promote small business would be to restore normal public safety in Wilmington. Not just Market Street and the Riverfront, but in the neighborhoods. This will require support and investment from Dover. Wilmington is full of empty storefronts and commercial space ready to become businesses again. Restoring public safety would open up entire neighborhoods for private investment in businesses and housing.

Restoring public safety requires smart and humane police work. But once that is achieved, the focus must turn to education and supporting familes. Family values require family wages.

Also, it is time to give business a tax incentive for hiring disadvantaged individuals especially from the inner city. Also improve bus schedules and rail transit. If we can bus them out to schools, we can bus them out to the employers.

Delaware Republicans need to stop poisoning all their public policy prescriptions with their anti-union crusade. Unions are part of the equation that helps keep people in the middle class. Republicans need a reminder that your employees are somebody else’s customer.

Oh, and stop supporting the resegregation of public schools. Go back to investing in our traditional public schools until they are great once again.

    • Mike,
How does one adopt “public safety” in an environment that sends its 5 year olds out in the street to fight? How does one enforce public safety in a smart and “humane” way when the police are threatened with physical harm in the streets and legal harm by those ignoring the former?

You want to improve Delaware’s infrastructure and be capable of doing some of what you want, it starts with demanding the inflated prevailing wage laws are eliminated. Good luck getting this done though with the union protecting legislators, and self serving state workers unions. Therein is the problem. Therein is also why we don’t have the money to do the things you “think” will solve the problems. Sooner or later you run out of other peoples’ money. Delaware is there.

When our school officials and school boards are fiscally astute enough to manage and be prudent with multimillion dollar budgets instead of the best methods to propagandize referendums, that will be when it makes sense to trust that “investing” will provide good education. Until then, it isn’t “investing”, it is speculating and that is not a good, sound course of action with other peoples’ money.
