News Journal snubs Red Clay Cooke school ribbon cutting! Rep Hudson cuts in and pushes parent aside for photo opt!

  • Beginning of the future’ for Cooke Elementary by Hockessin Community News

Red it all here ………………

Looks like the editor of the News Journal sees ribbon cutting of new transitional public schools a non-event! However, we can count on the Community News to keep us posted on important community events.

You’ll see in the photo Rep Hudson wearing her Republican Red observing the actual ribbon cutting. The person, a parent who started the “required” petition and requirement to get legislators support ( Hudson was nice enough to accommodate) had to give up her spot in photo so that Rep Hudson can be in it. I talked to that parent and though feeling sad she said, she didn’t need to be in photo because her reward is knowing she did something great for her elementary principal who was there for her in her hour of need as student. Now that is class!  Thanks for your support Debbie but once again like a true politician you stick your flag in something others worked so hard to accomplish.

Hey bird, the angels are smiling and will reward you!

  1. Kilroy, what happened to wereallin’nosteves? Worried your highlight real of bizarre referendum induced behavior might hurt its passage? Frankly, as a parent I think the csd data breach – 4500 students strong – is more likely to derail the referendum than a little war of Gotcha!

I don’t want to derail the referendum however, in deed there was a serious data breech handing out names and address of students to a referendum committee working in the shadows! Did the board approve it ? Doubt it! Kilroy has a standing invitation to guest bloggers! Dump it here and I’ll post it!

  2. Kilroy, I will share. My children’s data, by name and address, enrollment status and godonlyknowswhatelse, was given to a committee with four volunteer signatories. I don’t know these four individuals. I don’t believe the district has background checked them. They don’t work for the district. The envelopes came postmarked out of Newark although they are return addressed to drew in wilminton I never gave the district permission to share this information. It is a FERPA violation. It is 4500 FERPA violations. And 4500 reasons for me to distrust this district. Transparency? Referendum steering committee – who authorized this data dump? Who stuffed these envelopes? Who is going to guarantee that my children’s data is safe, that my children are safe? How long after the referendum fails and before the brute mob comes for those who utilize choice? If what they’ve done to steve saffer is to become pattern, no private citizen is safe! Insanity. Which town idiot dreamt up this data dream? Oh I haven’t even begun to expound on the thinly veiled letter that was actually in the envelope! But, we’ll let the no partisan election commissioner rule on that.

    • In like style – shit yes. Yep. Lizzie actually said the s word. Addressed to The current resident or parent/guardian of insertchildname at insertchilds address. Which clearly indicates the senders did not need to know that a child lived here – only that a voting body as in singular/person was in residence. In fact they didn’t really care. Just vote yes… Well how the hell do you think we feel like voting now? And I do believe that FERPA violations are illegal! The precious process, and democratically speaking, it is, has been corrupted.

  3. My kids were also addressed by name by the committee envelopes. Still holding JY’s torch? The district is flush with BS and you won’t let real debate occur. I don’t expect response Mr. K but you damn sure better know that the district BS needs to stop. The charters are not the problem. The problems started in the districts and you know it. They Demand money and provide crap services. The redistricting can’t happen soon enough.

  4. MRyder,

I respect JY, but he doesn’t need me to hold his torch. Haven’t spoken to each other in almost two years.

I’m angry b/c someone decided to make my children pawns in this referendum. They violated our privacy. Someone in CSD violated federal law. I want to know who authorized it. I want to know that there will be consequences.

At this moment in time, I am have no trust and I am not inclined to support their effort.

    • My apologies Elizabeth. My reference to JY was intended for Mr. ‘K’ilroy not you. My ranting was also in reference to the lack of Mr. ‘K’ilroys resistance to address CSD’s failings but castigate Charters’ for far less.

I respect that JY is fighting a difficult fight but CSD has issues that go beyond rational (some their own making, some not). Financial management included.

Again, pardon my post’s confusion Elizabeth. I do not expect any charges to befall the breach of privacy given our State of DOE dysfunction. There are simply too many heads of the Hydra that won’t go away or multiply when one is removed.

Elizabeth & MR, no ref. committee members were given any charter students’ or parents’ names or addresses. CSD’s ref. committee (volunteers, district parents) asked if a letter could be sent by CSD to charter parents explaining that we all split the same pot of local funds. (Many charters have not agreed to disseminate this info.) They suggested that the letter should come from fellow parents, not from district staff, b/c we assume many charter families dislike the district. The committee drafted the letter, several parents agreed to sign it, and the district sent it out. Neither the signers nor other volunteers saw the names & addresses. Those were compiled and mailed from Drew.

I don’t know why children’s names were used, rather than parents’. Possibly CSD has student data, for those it funds, but not parent data if the child is not in CSD? Don’t know. In any case, I’m sorry if this alarmed you. It is my understanding that Freeman planned to call you and apologize for any misunderstanding. Did he?

    • Eve thank you for sharing this information. Freeman did call. We discussed the decisions that went into this mailer, how it came to be, the ferpa violations, and ultimately what accountability should look like. This is just one example of various mis-steps occurring in this campaign. What we all can agree on is that we are hopeful that adult decisions don’t derail the plea to fund our students as needed.

User – the mailer told choice parents about how their choice schools were going to loose money if the referendum failed. The language was loaded. And several choice families have sought me out to explain it – note none of them were NCS families – these are families who attend the lesser known schools. A couple folks have taken away from this letter a confused interpretation where they wanted to know if it meant that the district was simply going to stop funding their child. I explained that that is not what will happen. But the amount of funding that follows their children may be less.
