  1. About 1:20 in, when he realized his audience wasn’t a bunch of kids whose parents he could try to manipulate through his speech, since these were/are beyond the testing years, essentially, he cleared his throat and realized that these weren’t the kids he wanted to be talking to. An oh shit moment. It’s so obvious. Watch it again.

The next few seconds after the discovery and cough are pretty good too. Since most juniors and seniors in high school are in point of fact, interested in capital S State schooling (not education) policy. I know I was at that age. I mean, c’mon, who wasn’t at the age of hormones?

As usual Markell misses the point. It’s not about the number of hours of testing…it’s about how testing is being used. Parents are opting out because of how the results are being used to punish schools and teachers. Get a clue.

Sorry, also, you need to get the clue. Do you honestly think Beldar does not know what the stink is about, doesn’t know why he is being challenged? Methinks you know better. Next logical question, do you think he will ever admit the truth? Meaning, confess to making a hash of this all? His script is poetic perfection.

Don’t watch what they say, watch what they do.

Of course, sadly there is the discernment factor to consider; I doubt that many, if not most, of the opt outs are NOT for the reason(s) you cite at all. That would require the connecting of dots at a level higher than most current products of the same system they decry can muster.

You want good (fun) (really useful) data? Poll them. Donuts will get you dollars most are opting because Timmy was -feeling- bad about himself vis a vis testing regimens — his current generation representing the culmination of years of self-esteem-at-the-expense-of-knowhow ruling the day. Or, just as likely, they WILL cite the time factor; not based on any clear thinking analysis, but more likely the groundswell mob mentality they are tripping over here and there.

Don’t get me wrong, if I had my way, Marxell and every “aye” voting legislator would go to Sing Sing for bringing RttT, CC and SBAC into an already destructive system, making it worse. My commentary speaks to how the politicians that did so got elected in the first place as much as it does to the momentary recognition now being displayed (by a few) of this particular teaspoon of the destruction.

  3. Lose the SBAC, lose the federal funding. Gov knows this. So we’ll lose the DCAS Social Studies/Science tests….and probably the state created finals for Algebra II/Integrated III…and maybe rid ourselves of the Performance Plus as well. Endgame? SBAC is here to stay. Until we get a new Gov. And then we’ll get a new test that’ll be even better than the SBAC. Until we get a new Gov…
