Delaware State Legislator Mike Ramone is a founding member of LEAN charter school

What the hell is the matter with this damn state of Delaware?? Why would a sitting state legislator become a found member of a charter school? Come on Publius please tell me? Also, State Representative Mike Ramone is a member of the Delaware House Education Committee! Mike get off that committee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update!!!

What at crackhead !! Rep Ramone supports his $$$ buddy Hocker on starting school after Labor Day at the same time supporting LEAN’s proposed start of school on August 8th! See page 1. Make up your mind Mike!

OMG it get’s better! LEAN plans on having teacher /parent conferences on November 23rd the day before Thanksgiving and there is no school for students that day! Do you honestly think parents with children home and being the day before Thanksgiving  will want to engage in teacher / parent conferences in person or even by phone? See page 2. Hey Penny, is your Cali charter school set up on this schedule?

  3. Not sure about everything else in this application but with regard to the calendar it appears this is a proposal for a school that operates on a year round calendar, sometimes called a balanced calendar

The location is not at all clear, which is concerning. I didn’t see that this application has been accepted for full consideration yet, was that posted somewhere else? The board meeting agenda seems to indicate the new applications are still in initial review. The charter law says they have to make it through that review before they go through the formal application review process with the committee, etc.

The application for LEAN and VINE are the only charter applications received by DE DOE before deadline.

A balanced school year aka some think year round does pose a concern. For instance, LEAN students have off October 13th for professional development day followed by being off October 14th through the 31th for Fall Vacation. This is new for working parents and their employers and perhaps daycare centers. Last day of school is June 21 barring any snow days. Odds are snow will come after Fall Vacation so can’t trim those day. Going be hot and $$$ on A/C bill.

Looking at these two charter application after seeing many in prior years, they don’t look strong. One has letters of recommendations from community / parents that were form letters for the supporter to just sign. The there is the support letters express support based on application goals as if those goals were proven. These two charter schools don’t appear to office something new or unique. Like DMA or Copeland’s school. Clear duplication what existing schools offer.

As I understand charter schools in Delaware, they are free-choice schools. No one is forced to go to one, right? So, if people don’t like how conferences will be scheduled, they won’t enroll their children, and if very few choose it, the school will either never open or will close. If I am correct about this, why does Kilroy care about the strange schedule?
