I really haven’t dug into the details and really just stopped when I saw this; “This decision violates the Neighborhood Schools Act”. Doesn’t seem like anyone is up in arms about the one-way busing out-bound from Wilmington because “Red Clay” refuses to provide neighborhood middle and high schools to Wilmington’s children. White parents in the suburbs would crying foul if their children were bused to Wilmington because of overcrowding in the suburbans schools. Then there is busing some Wilmington high school students to Dickinson when A.I. High School is the closest.
As far as all the Title 1 funding and concerns at Cooke, WTF! What is Title 1? It’s primarily supplemental reading and math. It is “supplemental” services!
“Absolutely agreed, Xudong! Board member Cathy Thompson (the only Board Member to vote AGAINST this motion) said that if we have an awesome turnout at the meeting, then there is a chance for the decision to be reversed!!!
So it looks like F. Lee Bailey Thompson is trying to manipulate the public to get back at the board. “Passing of the upcoming referendum is at risk if this decision is not reversed”. Crock of horse shit! Previous referendums passed in-spite of the force busing of Red Clay Wilmington high school students living in Wilmington!
Red Clay was ground zero for the charter school movement lead by white parents who didn’t want their children bused into Wilmington. Wilmington Charter School “specific interest” re: a school for over-achievers knowing undesirable at-risk black students couldn’t gain admission. All and all, this is really some sad Red Clay bullshit! As far as the referendum, it might not pass because it’s too $$$ heavy in the first year.
So who wants to sent me straight on the Cooke issue?
