Does DE DOE’s powers supersede Delaware State Legislators ?

147th General Assembly
House Bill # 334
  (Tabled in Committee)

Primary Sponsor:

Scott

Additional Sponsor(s):    Sen. Sokola

CoSponsors:

Rep. Heffernan

Introduced on :

05/08/2014

Long Title:

AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 14 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATED TO EDUCATION.

Synopsis of Orginal Bill:

(without Amendments)

This bill provides for the transition of the statewide student assessment system, the Delaware Comprehensive Student Assessment (DCAS), to the Smarter Balanced Assessment System (Smarter). Specifically, the bill removes references to multiple assessments.

Mark my words, at the end of legislative session H.B.#334 or perhaps another piece of legislation will open the door for The Smarter Balanced Assessment. Sokola, Scott and Heffernan should be voted out of office! This legislation ins’t “for the kids”, it’s for Jack Markell and his personal agenda for life after public office!

  1. Dont you miss the days of the heffernans showing up at board meetings with pictures and crying during their 2 minutes comment section?

  2. DOE has been operating about the law for a long, long time. This is the exact same play they pulled when Jack wanted RTTT. The department went to the legislature after they applied for and won the pathetic competition.

The more things stay the same, the more they stay the same. Too many of our legislators wear blinders. They are pouring tons of money into winning friends, not elections.

  3. Delaware needs an opt out option. I think it is the only option until DE DOE makes a responsible plan for progress.

  4. How about someone submits legislation that no contracts can be signed until the law is amended prior to that contract violating state code? But then again, someone would say that would put that current contract in violation. Unless you put in something like “When this contract expires, this bill would go into effect.” Anyone out there want to take up this mantle? Townsend? Sokola?
