Bad news for H.B.#23 re: recording school board meetings

Looks like Delaware’s future Attorney General Matt Denn is at it again blocking H.B. #23. Word has it H.B.#23 sponsor Rep Hudson is boxed in a corner! Denn and the Speaker of The House are tighter than a bug’s ass! H.B.#23 was introduced and sent to the House Education Committee on January 23, 2013, out of House Committee March 27, 2013 and placed on the House Ready List! There it sat and then pushed to House Appropriation Committee where it going to be buried. Finally after bitching in was reviewed and favorably released from House Appropriation on March 31, 2014 and put back on House Ready List. Word has it Lt. Matt Denn wants H.B.#23 on ice aka desk drawer veto! Rep Hudson sits in the corner intimidated like a scared mouse! The Delaware way! So how do you advocate for education and open transparency in Delaware? Drop to your knees ! Folks I did my best! We have the Delaware State Board of Education recording their meetings. We have Red Clay, Christina, Capital, Delmar, Brandywine and Colonial who voluntarily records their board meetings! I am sorry I didn’t get the job done as promised! And it’s sad to think Matt Denn will be our next AG. Very sad! Come June 30th once legislative session ends Kilroy will be moving into election 2014 mode! We honestly elected officials in office who takes transparency seriously.

dude it’s DONE! The game is keep on the House Ready List or maybe get to a House Vote then let it sit on Senate Ready List until next session. Sure it all pisses me off but the real loss is to the community and real transparency. Hudson doesn’t have the fire in her to secure such a historical legislation. Then there is Longhurst and her political games! But Matt Denn is the real wedge in this! He’s protecting charter schools who are afraid of a little sunlight. So photoshop is being oiled up for election 2014! Put them family and or family dog on campaign lit and they are fair game. Perseverance prevails and I’ll put blog /book Johnny Can’t Read on the back-burner. I’ve been experimenting with Facebook and Twitter tied to WordPress and it has extended my range. But if you can help in moving H.B.#23 to law it would be a service to the community. And thanks for caring!

  2. Recording board meetings is only the beginning of transparency. The real action happens in all the little committee meetings that are constantly taking place. The real victory is to get rour district to reliably put those meeting schedules online along with agendas and minutes, and make it clear that parents and the public may attend as per FOIA.

Assigning parent representatives to district committees is nice but who aever hears from those people again? That kind of participation is welcome but open meetings and posted agendas are the gold standard.

FYI, as AG Matt Denn would be responsible for enforcing FOIA and open meetings law.

    • We have in this bill before us, a line in the sand… Whether this bill gets passed or not passed is only the minor point… The major point is that we can use this passage, to see who should…. or who should not…. be allowed to continue serving us in office….

If you are more concerned with those doing the back room deals, who gets paid under the table and by how much, if you are more ready to identify with them, and are primarily sympathetic to their fears, you simply are on the wrong side to represent us, we the people.

If on the other hand you are in the firm belief that THIS government derives all its power, all of its reason for being, and in all, is primarily responsible primarily to those it serves, that being we the people whose money it spends, then you despite your political leanings of left or right, are indeed a good decent person and should continue to represent us…

This bill goes straight to the heart of each of those men or women… It is a litmus test of whether they are there for us. If they are not, it then becomes our most patriotic sworn duty, to replace them….. Not over some recorder, but over their complete disrespect of the common decency of everyday people………

Certainly if the H.B.#23 made it to the house floor those who oppose would be considered against real transparency. In the big picture the recordings offers legislators the opportunity to become better informed and engaged by listening to the recordings in their leisure or if there is a major controversy. I know board members go back and listen to discussion to better prepare themselves for a vote to follow re: one meeting rule. Those concerned with unions can actually hear union reps addressing the boards. As far as parents, we want them home preparing their children for the next day of school but have an ear to the events and go into action if there are issues of major interest! School finance, I know in Red Clay despite questions on spending, the community can hear the monthly financial reports and board engagement. If it doesn’t pass at least I know I’ve made an impact whereas looks at the school boards that stepped up and record their meetings. Also, the state board recording their meetings is a victory for transparency!

Election 2014 is ready to really kick in and yes I am not happy with Rep Hudson! Her and I had wonderful dialogue and I honestly believed in her! She just bailed on me without any communications at to what the snags were. But I have a hunch it more internal Dover politics no H.B.#23 somewhere between Longhurst and House Speaker Pete is the political log jam! However, Pete is toying with me because of my attacks! So be it! I don’t lose as much as the community does! I have no ability for internal political paybacks as they do in Dover. My political paybacks will be my blogging against those weak and ignorant. It’s an off election years 2014 not 2016 so the win / lose margins could be tight. Debbie is going to have to work hard and actually campaign. If her opponent is no better than her big deal at least she’ll be unemployed and same goes for Longhurst. And Matt Denn is not a shoe it! Joe M has a strong chance of losing his seat to Steve Newton! There are many disenfranchised Republicans out there that might warm up to Steve and look beyond the 3rd party factor.

Then there is Publius who lives in a mirror bubble and can’t see lack of transparency is what’s taken down charter schools. Delaware College Prep is going down and OMG The Charter School Don who bounces from one charter board to another must be embarrassed his new charter school couldn’t even mustard 40% enrollment in-spite of the one year delay request. If parents are demanding charters, why are there three set to open in the fall that failed to attach students? I saw Publius in public and even shook his hand! I honestly don’t care who he is and respect his position as that! He guarding the from of the charter fort but fails to see the back-gate is opened. Saving the charter school movement and making it healthier requires better transparency. Nothing to hide , nothing to fear!

Yep photoshop is going into overdrive and I know I have a personal policy of leaving families out of it buy if the candidates put the family and family dog on the lit it’s fair game! Kicking the sand re: H.B. #23 yep! 🙂 Dusting off Rules for Radicals to employ. Burn all the bridges with the GOP WTF!
