I’m not sure why some people who signed up for updates got them and some didn’t. That seems very odd to me. As to the DOE stating that nothing went out, all I know is it came from pencaderinfo@doe.k12.de.us. Maybe a different office?

At 36:42 a DOE speaker states:

“and we sent an email to all families addressing a letter that was …uh…posted by the board president of Pencader last week.”

Pencader Parents – Did the DOE rep lie?

I don’t personally know any other parents who provided their e-mail addresses. (I’ve asked those I see.) One said, “Oh, I didn’t sign up for that. I get too much e-mail.”

Whether this is the cause of the discrepancy or not, I do not know

  3. They should have said “… we sent an email to all families who signed up for them…”
How could they even say they have everyone’s email address? Where would they get it? from Pencader? you had to sign up for that as well.
Does every family in Delaware have email? I know a lot of people who don’t

Elizabeth, I didn’t click on the above, gotta get dinner ready, but can I ask you what were they talking about or answering when they said that anyway?

All right….Maybe they only sent them to people who, when asked, indicated that they wanted to be updated. Should have said, “We sent an update to anyone who expressed an interest in receiving information.”

I think the sheet I saw at the event asked our preferred method of contact. I only signed up for e-mail, so I don’t know if a robo-call went out.

    • PM – they were referencing the potential April 30 closure and indicating that they had communicated to the families, in response to Frank’s email, that early closure was unacceptable. They assured the state board that they were working with Pencader to keep the school open until the end of the year. There is a sense that SBE members may have been contacted by Pencader parents and that the department may have used this as a way of saying – it’s blown out of proportion, we got it covered. That’s feeling I get from listening to the audio. Other may interpret it differently.

Regardless, it was not true. The SBE seemed to relax when they learned that the department has contacted the parents. I think they’d be much less relaxed today, if they were to learn otherwise. I’ve asked Alison Kepner, DOE spokesperson, to inform the SBE that there was an error in the statement. She has responded that she will consult with the Donna Johnson from the SBE. She’s board secretary or executive director or something like that. Not a voting member.

The problem I see with this is that the SBE was assured that parents had been contacted with a message of “don’t worry” when parents were not and continue to panic. Dishonesty is dishonesty. Self-correction needs to occur to show transparency and accountability. The next step of course is to actually make contact with PCHS parents who are in the dark and worried.

Nope the school board president did not forward us an email from DOE in response to the McIntosh letter. The SBE has no idea how many parents have heard its mesage and besides, now we’re only a week away from April 30 and the state hasn’t said one word about what will happen to our kids if the school closes then. All theyve said so far is that its unacceptable but they havent said what willhappen if it sactually does happen. our house isnot very happy right now.

Ours, either. I replied to the DOE’s e-mail on Thursday asking for clarification. (Basically, “you say closing is not an option. The school board says it is. What’s going on?”) I have not had a response.

  5. No response and you asked for clarification last Thursday? You know what, that says volumes and it really stinks.
