Markell needs to man-up and address the racial concerns

Leaders demand city school district; ‘We need local control, and we are going to get it’

Parents, students, elected officials and religious leaders rallied Monday, calling for a new school district  structure and funding system. They said city children should be put into one or two districts, putting an end to a school system drafted more than 30 years ago that split the students among four school districts and bused many to schools far from home as part of federal court-ordered desegregation. In 1995, a federal court ruled that busing had worked and lifted the desegregation order. The four districts remain

“Deseg was a mistake,” said Charles Potter Jr., a city councilman. “We need local control, and we are going to get it.”

“We cannot let [state leaders] make decisions in isolation,” Street said.

Jea, Markell is the so-called change agent and Markell is pulling the strings of DOE and the State Board of Education. Markell is not responsible for the condition of education prior to the day he took office. However, Markell is taking education down a painful road for the sake of repaying his campaign contributions made by the founders of rodel and many business roundtable folks who want control of education. MARKELL IS NOW RESPONSIBLE

In the 15 years since the desegregation order was lifted, schools slowly appear to be re-segregating due to a combination of new policies — charter schools, legislation allowing school choice through inter- and intra-district open enrollment, and the Neighborhood Schools Act of 2000, which sends children to schools closest to their homes

JACK MARKELL KNEW ALL THESE CONCERNS PRIOR TO TAKING OFFICE AND IN EFFORTS TO WIN THE BLACK VOTE HE GAVE LIP-SERVICE AS IF HE WOULD ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS. SEE FOR YOURSELF IN THIS VIDEO

There’s not a concern that creating a city school system would decrease diversity, Street said, adding the racial make-up of the schools attended by city children already is skewed. “The schools don’t have diversity in them now,” he said

“Skewed” ? No ! It was design and none of Markell agents Skipper or Rodel made issue with the appearance of re-segregation. The roundtable Privateers rather black poverty students be rounded up in groups so that they can maximize their profits.

Governor Jack Markell so prouding injected himself in a protest of union members.

Addressing the protestors, Markell hopped on the bumper of a Capitol Police SUV with a bullhorn.

“Getting people back to work is our focus. From the moment I wake up until late at night, I am thinking about how to get people back to work,” said Markell,

  1. Interesting that everyone seems to want to use the Olympian analogy:

“A dozen governors, led by Bill Ritter Jr. of Colorado, sat with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a hotel ballroom in Washington a few weeks back, praising his vision and gushing with enthusiasm over a $4 billion grant competition they hoped could land their states a jackpot of hundreds of millions of dollars.

But for many of those governors, the contest lost some sizzle last week, when Mr. Duncan awarded money to only two states — Delaware and Tennessee.

Colorado, which had hoped to win $377 million, ended in 14th place. Now Mr. Ritter says the scoring by anonymous judges seemed inscrutable, some Coloradans view the contest as federal intrusion and the governor has not decided whether to reapply for the second round.

“It was like the Olympic Games, and we were an American skater with a Soviet judge from the 1980s,” Mr. Ritter said.”
