DOE’s Heckle and Jeckle comes to Red Clay

Lillian Lowery sent up two guys that couldn’t sell a life-preserver to a drowning man!

It seems DOE and Jack Markell has been wheeling and dealing with the teacher’s association providing them more details than the school boards. The bottom-line is either Red Clay signed the MOU or they don’t get the money and will be required to follow revised state education regulations.

I am telling you straight up, these two DOE guys were like two used car salesman trying to sell a car without an engine. The old guy even went as far as pretty much saying , we know how you feel but this is how it’s coming down.

The big issue was, what happens when the RTTT funds run out in a few years? They said other money will be coming ! BULLSHIT ! YEA FUCKING RIGHT FROM THE LOCAL TAXPAYERS !!!!!!!!!! . Dip-shits said the state is investing in this as if they’ll pick up the financial slack !!!  The board vote was 1 nays and 5 yeas ( Eric was not in attendance) Becnel cast the nay vote.

The board asked a lot of questions and raised a lot of concerns. However, either way they voted changes in state regulations must be followed! The two dip-shits were blowing smoke let us believe the local taxpayers would be stuck paying teacher bonuses and incentives.

DOE said Red Clay would be getting over 4 million dollars and if they didn’t sign they would get ZERO and must follow new regulations.  Also, the MOU is a preliminary step and once (if) Delaware is approved for RTTT the state has 9o days to workout all the details re: teacher accountability and other requirements. What’s fucked up is the two DOE dip-shits said the DOE was preparing to amend the regulation next week! These guys were talking so far out their asses it you could see their tongues!

Honestly ask your favorite board members, they were not included in any of the DOE and governor’s office talks and presentation. Even the Super was surprised what was shared from meetings the teachers representatives.

The board was assured by the two DOE dip-shits that the MOU was not a contract or deal and was just an understanding that they will collaborate at the next level. This is what the board was voting on! But dam these two guys seemed so full of shit it was unreal! They couldn’t give a straight answers to half the questions asked!

I was so fucking pissed that when I got up there I was ready to fucking lose it! During the presentation a lot of conversation was going on between the DOE guy at the microphone the dip-stick sitting down, a Red Clay union rep sitting in the audience and the board.  When it came to me the only person who completed a green slip the three-minute rule applied and when I saw the two-minute warning I was ready to scream! It was like RTTT proceedings was more about everybody except the students and the taxpayers who will foot the bill!

Board member Kim asked some good questions and made the right vote under the circumstances. Kim make sure you get transcripts  of the meeting because down the road if DOE was blowing smoke. The transcripts might come in handy. I am sure they’ll delete my comment saying DOE couldn’t sell a life-preserver to a drowning man.

One thing that was mighty odd is, whatever the teachers were told in DOE and Markell meeting without the board or super, how could DOE or Markell promise something that might have to come out of the district’s funding. Markell ran on government transparency but doesn’t look that way with RTTT.

Schwarzenegger to terminate failing principals and teachers

I just watched Schwarzenegger’s State of the State address and California’s education reform legislation was passed last night and is on the way to his desk . Schwarzenegger is anxious to sign it. This clears the was for $700 million dollars of Race to The Top fund for California.

Schwarzenegger made it clear that this legislation will clear the was for California to fire poor performing principals and hold teachers accountable for students’ performance on the  California student  assessment test.

Governor Holds Press Conference with Mayor Kevin Johnson Regarding Race to the Top Legislation

Gerald Walpin speaks: The inside story of the AmeriCorps firing Walpin explained in an hour-long interview Saturday, were unhappy with his investigation into the misuse of AmeriCorps funds by Kevin Johnson, the former NBA star who is now mayor of Sacramento, California and a prominent supporter of President Obama.

In the course of his investigation, Walpin found Johnson and St. HOPE had failed to use the federal money they received for the purposes specified in the grant and had also used federally-funded AmeriCorps staff for, among other things, “driving [Johnson] to personal appointments, washing his car, and running personal errands.” Walpin came to the conclusion that Johnson and St. HOPE should be subject to suspension and debarment.

What’s behind Obama’s sudden attempt to fire the AmeriCorps inspector general? There are a number of unanswered questions today about President Obama’s abruptdecision to fire the inspector general of the AmeriCorps program, Gerald Walpin.  Obama sent letters to House and Senate leaders yesterday informing them that he was firing Walpin, effective 30 days from the date of the letters.

The bottom line is that the AmeriCorps IG accused a prominent Obama supporter of misusing AmeriCorps grant money.  After an investigation, the prominent Obama supporter had to pay back more than $400,000 of that grant money.  And Obama fired the AmeriCorps IG.

The death of Public Education

Across America teacher unions are buckling under to RTTT.  I’ve been scanning the news from around the country and pretty much all the teacher’s unions are folding in to RTTT.

Republicans as you know have been aggressive union busters and its ironic  democrats like Jack Markell, Joe Biden and President Obama  push the teacher unions under the bus. The Liberals can’t blame this one on George Bush. Even here in Delaware the democrats are hiding in the corner like mice.

Will it be the end of the world without unionized public school teachers?Personally I doubt it!  However over time I see the standard of living falling for traditional and charter school teachers. I see higher healthcare cost for teachers and certainly longer school year on the horizon.

However, in the big picture I see the biggest losers being the local taxpayers.  Arne Duncan might be willing to increase federal spending on public education but the state isn’t so anxious. The State of  Delaware has been cutting public school funding for a good five years going back to the so-called “Minner givebacks.” One-third of Delaware’s budget goes to public education and do you really think it would go as high as 50%? Dream on !

Delaware struggles to keep its end of the bargain with school construction  and each delay on the state’s part ends up increasing the final cost of construction.

Tonight’s Red Clay’s Board “Workshop” will be an interesting event. In a unprecedented move, Delaware DOE will be on hand at a Red Clay school board meeting to babysit the school board through the Race to The Top agenda. Why ? Because the board does not have all the answers and the board was not part of the backroom deals.

Governor Markell puts a gun (political) in Delaware DOE’s hand and sends them out on a mission to shoot  out (political) the empowerment of local schools boards. Please keep in mind, school board members are elected public officials and DOE is crossing the line in local control! DOE will be on hand at Red Clay’s board meeting to answer questions. I would love asked them what fucking  right do you have coming here running your fucking agenda through our school board.

The choice for Red Clay and other school boards throughout the state is to either tactfully tell DOE to go fuck themselves or bend over. However, politically everyone will fall in line. The superintendent will put on a happy face, the teacher union leaders will raise concerns but will be a team player for the kids and the school boards will yield.

I am not going to fault Red Clay’s school board for going along with the RTTT /MOU. If it were the old board guard still in control would I attack them? I am not going to lie , I just don’t know. I  still support traditional public schools and their teachers over a flawed charter system. Traditional public school teachers have no say in which students can attend their schools and can’t exclude any student. I would love to see how the charter system can compete on an even playing field.

I can only ask Red Clay school board members to search their hearts and vote with integrity. This vote might be about what Arne Duncan and his house-boy Jack Markell thinks is right for public education that certainly involves privatizing public schools. However, this vote is about the fortitude of the integrity of local school boards. I’ve seen some tough bitter school board campaigns that questioned the integrity of opponents and now it the time for all board member to look in the mirror.

My crystal ball sees a Red Clay board vote on the MOU of 2 nays and 5 yeas. I would love to see a 3 nays and 4 yeas as this vote would say kiss my ass to DOE for putting a political gun to our heads. The way RTTT is coming down it’s all about politics and if Govenor Markell and Delaware DOE wants to throw shit on local school board control. I figure the board needs to throw some back. A unanimous vote for RTTT MOU in my mind would be a tragic intrusion  on local control.

To Happy Days girl, God bless you and we can’t save the world no matter how hard we try. At least we made the effort.

To the rookie, I am on your side just do what you think is right and that’s all I ask.

To mother hen, life is a bitch and sometimes the trucks run over  the chicks but the flock survives.

To the wise bird, this vote may be your biggest ever and let your integrity guide you.

To Monsignor,
He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil-this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him. Isaiah 33:15-16

To Shark Boy, I don’t enjoy this and it’s hard to address the man and his position as one. Education seems to be full of power, ego, integrity and money. Sometimes its hard to see the integrity.
