Lavelle takes aim at teacher sex crimes By Amy Cherry

Republican Rep. Greg Lavelle (R-Sharpley) hints he’ll bring legislation to address to teacher sex crimes when the General Assembly heads back into session.

Greg how about bringing back the whipping post or castration?

Lavelle’s push to better protect children comes on the heels of a Sussex Tech teacher being arrested for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student.

And now at Glasgow High Schools deemed a “distraction” by the school leaders!

Breaking News: Did a rape occur between Glasgow High staff and student?

The Internal Revenue Service recently issued a Proposed Regulation titled “Determination of Government Plan Status.” This regulation would force states to prohibit charter school teachers from participating in state retirement plans. Presently, every single state that authorizes charter schools either requires or permits charter school participation in the state’s retirement system. Therefore, this regulation would negatively impact nearly all charter school teachers in the country.

I’ve been networking on this one and may be getting some attention in Dover. 

Here is last year’s Delaware Student Crime Report Legislators are refusing to list in the text of the proposed laws which crimes are considered minor and not needing to be reported. Check it out and tell which crimes you feel are minor enough not to report.

It doesn’t make sense! Here we are trying to address school bullying and prevent violent crimes taking place in schools and this legislation may push-back some the little red flags that help keep crimes in check. How many times have we heard the warning signs were there and the system failed to see them? This law that is not specific enough leaving discretion of what’s a minor crime up to the school principal is DANGEROUS! I don’t think it too much to ask for the legislators list what minor offenses should be excused from reporting. Personally if I were and parent or teacher who became a victim of a crime where minor crimes were suppressed I’d be pissed and sue the school district and state legislators. If this law passes, I plan on leaning hard on local school boards to create a policy listing what they consider minor offensives not requiring to be reported.

“Persistently Dangerous School means a school that has five or more unsafe incidents for every one hundred students enrolled for three consecutive fiscal years.”

Our legislators are taking part in a dangerous agenda to help Delaware DOE and Governor Markell to avoid have Delaware school being label “Persistently Dangerous Schools

Parents did you know this: “A student attending a persistently dangerous school shall be allowed to choice to a safe school in the same school district, including a charter school; provided such an option exists in the district, the student should be permitted to transfer to a school that is making adequate yearly progress and has not been identified as being in school improvement, corrective action or restructuring.”

Folks this legislation is all about protecting the status-quo and sets a dangerous precedence in lowering the safety of your children.

If this legislation passes I will post the vote record for the Delaware House and Senate. This way you’ll know which legislators to name in any lawsuit.

Honestly folks, are we asking too much from our legislators to list what crimes they feel are minor enough not to report?

Dear Glasgow Parents/Guardians,

Last night, Delaware State Police conducted an investigation into an allegation of inappropriate contact between a staff member and a student.

There are still many elements of this incident that remain unclear, and we are cooperating fully with the State Police on this matter. The Delaware State Police spokesperson stated today that they are currently investigating the incident that occurred at the school, and at this time they are not prepared to make any comments on the incident until the conclusion of the investigation.

As you know, there have also been many rumors circulating since yesterday, and much of the information has been unsubstantiated or incorrect. During this period of ongoing investigation, I would like to request that students, staff, and parents share their concerns directly with school administrators, and that we work together as a school community while this issue is still under investigation.

I sent an email to all Glasgow High School staff members this morning instructing them that if any student is concerned and would like to talk with someone, that student may meet with me in my office. I cleared my calendar for the day so that I could provide time to talk with students. I will also work with students to engage their family or other support as needed, and we will make our school counselors available to students. As parents, we also ask for your support in talking with your students about the importance of maintaining safe and appropriate interactions with both their peers and adults they come into contact with.

We also plan to reach out to the District Attorney’s Office to explore training opportunities for all staff members at Glasgow High School on appropriate encounters between students and staff and appropriate teacher-student relationships.

I believe that together, with consistent and aligned communication that supports the good of the entire school community, we can minimize distractions to the learning environment during this challenging time. Please feel free to share your concerns and feedback directly with me or one of our Academy Leaders.

You can bet the New Journal will have the full scoop in the A.M.! Was there an alleged Rape? Did the alleged incident happen on school grounds? I’ll bet the staff person has been charge with whatever at the crime! No why this information release would have been made unless charges were filed.

Is this lady on crack ? If element of the incident are unclear what is it student would like to talk about? OMG meet me in my office!!!!!!! Screw that go to your parent and the police! Provide a number to the lead detective parents and students to call. Last thing we want is a school principle to screw-up a criminal investigation! Why in the hell didn’t the district communication office make this communication? Honestly, I urge students and parents to go to the police!! PLEASE !

DOVER – A day after President Barack Obama called on states to increase the compulsory age for public education to 18, lawmakers in the Delaware House raised questions about the cost and implications of such a move.

So it looks like Delaware legislators have told President Obama, Money talks bullshit walks!

Rep Heffernan might consider investigation Glasgow High School school-leader unenrolling of students who are truant rather than following state truancy law. B

The proposed operating budget fills a $27.4 million gap in school operations spending that was expected to begin in the next school year after one-time federal stimulus funding dried up.

“This was the schools’ No. 1 priority,” said Ann Visalli, director of the Office of Management and Budget.

 The budget plan pays for hiring 111 new teachers at a cost of $8.7 million to account for projected growth in public school enrollment next year.

There are 208 public , charter , special , ILC and other schools in Delaware so 111 new teachers though welcomed doesn’t put a dent in what us really needed to effectively reduce class size. Make note, the $8.7 million is to cover teaching unit cost in association with student population growth. So this is nothing “new” in his budget but rather a requirement per state education legislation under unit funding. As far as the remainder of the educational budget increase that amount doesn’t even cover the cuts (RAPE) Markell made last year. NOT IMPRESSED JACK!

Red Clay allows the public three minutes to address the board during the public session of a given board meeting. There is a time-keeper who hold cards up reminding you of how much longer you have to speak. At the end of three minutes you’ll hear a beeper and your time is up. But you can maybe push it another 15 seconds.

If you plan is to get answers to question during your public recognition time don’t hold your breath. The board does not have to respond to your questions or comments. Many times they sit there like deer in headlights. Now if a board member gets piss and fires back as you walk away from the microphone stop and go back and take them on! LOL ! But that seldom happens.

Whatever you do don’t make a laundry list of complaints or issues. Take those issues on one at a time. There is always next month. And honestly the dumbest thing you can say to a board member is, “what do we pay you for?”. School board members don’t receive financial compensation. They get a nice meal before each board meeting. They do meet for executive session prior to public session.

Always write or type what you are going to say and practice and time your comments to ensure they are around three minutes. Sometimes there may be issues other people will address the board on. If you feel that person communicated the same concerns you have just said my concern was raised by another person and withdraw your opportunity to speak. HOWEVER, sometime its important for everyone to speak.

Very seldom do we see people step-up for the sake of the entire community. Most of the time the concern is about the speaker’s child or their school. Choice school rejections are a big bitch session for parents and sometimes these parents are like a pack of wild wolves.

Red Clay board public session meetings generally start at 7 p.m. so its important for you to be on time and submit the request form to address the board prior to the start of the meeting. But one good thing about coming early like 6:30 p.m. is, it allows you to network with other parents and community members. Most of the time there are district and building administrators hanging around prior to the meeting and its a great time to get to know them.

Red Clay public session board meetings are digitally recorded and place on the district’s webpage. This is good for the community and for transparency. It the past your name was notated on the official board meeting minute and that you spoke about school Choice for an example or any other topic. However, those minutes don’t reflect you comments as you presented them. The board does keep the same minutes an the recordings aren’t consider the boards official minutes Make note, many times board meetings are poorly attended and most of the people in attendance are district and school level administrators. The super has expectation that these individuals be in attendance for moral support and if there were an issue raised in regards to their duties or department. And be prepared to sit through some long presentation by various district department or school level presentation. This presentation usually come before public presentation.

SOMETIMES media people are in attendance like Lois Lane from the News Journal , WDEL and The Community News folks. If you bring attention to a hot topic these folks will swarm on you like bees on honey. Do take that opportunity to express yourself to the general public.

Always remember, the public in public school is you!
