Seems like tonight’s event is a waste of time because it’s a done deal! Not vote tonight because the reviewed committee already voted at the last meeting. The final vote comes at the state board of education meeting.

To Newark Charter parents: You have every right to school choice that includes charters and I support that. The odd are in your favor for the expansion. The committee voted yes and no doubt the state board will do the same. My issue are with certain parts of the law. Good luck!

To the Delaware State Legislators: Like a broken record, I support charter schools as a choice parents and students want. However, it time to address the admission preference to siblings and students living within the traditional school district the charter school is located in. No more specific interest and entrance test! If charters are public schools than open the doors like a real public schools. We need to put a ban on all new charter school application until we address these issues. Newark Charter parents really didn’t need to go through this but as you see the ugliness comes out. If we are going to have charter, choice and magnet schools we need a fair admission process! Otherwise, consolidated all school district into one statewide system and let DE DOE deal with their mess!

Delaware ed data coaches are working as spies for administration

Messages to Delaware school superintendents: The wastepaper baskets under your desk are information goldmines. Buy yourselves a shredder that sits over your wastepaper basket. However the damage is done! And before I forget, you folks that leave your computer passwords taped under your keyboards best find a new place to hit it.

Delaware teachers be warned that those experts coming into your schools called data coaches are doing more that helping you with, ”Data coaches will meet with small cohorts of teachers at least two times per month to review data regarding those teachers’ student data, help the teachers identify areas of deficiency and progress, and offer suggestions for teachers to address student needs as identified by the date”. Data coaches “are” profiling teachers as in “performance” evaluations and reviewing that information with school leaders. Also, rumor has that it, information is being stored on data coaches computers. Don’t forget “Wireless Generation” is the data coach provider. Data coaches were to be your partner to help you better serve students. It seems data coaches assessment of teachers migrate their way into school and district overall performance evaluations.

“The data coaches program will be led by Wireless Generation’s Professional Services division, which works with schools and districts nationwide to raise achievement” And you can bet the farm data coaches are building a national profile of individual teachers where information can be going offsite to third-party agents.

Responsibilities:

• Coach small groups of teachers and/or instructional coaches in analyzing data and using data to differentiate instruction.

• Facilitate meetings of Professional Learning Communities.

• Observe teacher practice and provide feedback to individual teachers.

• Train and support teachers in the use of state and local data systems.

• Support school-based data coaches and school and district leadership teams.

• Travel to schools to deliver services and build strong relationships with several schools and hundreds of teachers throughout the state.

• Provide written status reports to project management team regularly.

“Provide written status reports to project management team regularly”. There it is teachers, the gateway of keeping tabs on your ass!

Personally, I feel any discussion about a teacher’s performance in relationship of the mission of the data coach should be between the teacher and the coach and if there are discussions about the teacher’s performance between data coach and school / district administrators the teacher should be present.

Newark Charter Meece’s community leadership role comes into question

Meece’s column used negativity to fuel debate

We competely support Newark Charter High School and their staff for providing valuable education to our children and future generation.

Gregory Meece’s “Stop Blaming Schools” Community Voice column on Tuesday continues to fuel the debate over the proposed new high school with negativity. There is no hostility, no blame, no anger. No one contests the sterling record of Newark Charter School.

But Mr. Meece fails to address the broader issue framing this debate: equal opportunity for all children in the Christina school district. Charter’s success is built upon principles of exclusion by ignoring the social realities of the entire community. A better model of reform must accommodate students of all talents, abilities and background.

Mr. Meece’s use of the “crab bucket syndrome” to describe our neighbors is unfairly demeaning.

Greg Meece may be the school leader of Newark Charter School but his role in education and the social re-engineering of public school via a charter school network puts him out there as a community leader. But in his case along with those other misguided reformer whom many use their money as a tool to bully their way into the system are nothing more than wedges in dividing a community. There love for children and education is nothing more than a cover for an agenda to bust the teacher unions as a stepping stone to the real agenda of busting the prevailing wages and making out society a two-class system. We see it with they way charter schools are going. Charter schools for the middle and upper middle-class and charter schools for the lower middle-class and lower-class  Sprinkle enough black and high poverty students in the mix to fend off those calling them racist. What Meece is doing with no cafeteria is shameful. Hey poor kids, you can come to our school but you need to feed your own asses.       

Kilroy is no saint and that’s for sure! But I don’t run on my ego but rather pride knowing that when it comes to “public education” social justice comes first. Meece and other charter leaders cry they don’t get capital funding! But they read the rule book before getting into the game. Can’t stand the heat get out of the fucking kitchen! 

Meece is a good leader and has done Newark Charter well. However, the real concerns with public and charter schools are rooted in Governor Markell twisted ego and misguided pride. Newark Charter modification request was a done deal when that one phone call was made before any application was filed. Markell owns Delaware DOE, the Delaware State Board of Education and the state legislators both Republican and Democrat. The charter school movement and privatization of public schools creating more administrative job, consultant jobs and Wall Street profits is a joint efforts between Republicans and Democrats. Why are there very few questioning the direction of charter schools and Markell’s education agenda stuffed in his back-pocket with all those $$$ campaign contributions? You can bet Meece and Markell are tighter than a bug’s ass! 

Meece should keep a low profile and just do his job at Newark Charter and let the school’s parents defend Newark Charter’s honor. They’ve done a great job here and I respect them for making charter the choice or their children. The concerns are in Dover not with these parents. Parents. tell Meece you got it covered and to just worry about running the school from within not via the media.
