Message from CSW President Charles Baldwin
I am now the most hated man in Delaware. I have been receiving emails and calls on why I have ruined CSW with our change in admissions. Why all the Red Clay acceptances and no out-of-district? Influential people up and down the state have asked for exceptions to the rule. We follow the admissions policy established by our Board of Directors as outlined in our charter from Red Clay. We are, in fact, a Red Clay school. I have three (not so sure) friends who have children on the waiting list and are upset as to why I cannot assist them. My wife and I were confronted at the Christiana Mall by an angry parent who was also well-versed in gestures. I’ve been through this before as a charter school leader and expected this type of reaction. So if you are stopping by the office, hugs or a soothing word will be welcome
Chuck, you are one of the finest leaders this education system has ever had. Many in education do have a sense of passion but you add conviction and perseverance. You can look a kid in the eye and ask and believe in them. Yes CSW is a Red Clay school perhaps more the red headed stepchild. And when the young ones grow up it’s either out or pay room and board!
I am sure when Pandora see this she might stop by and give you that hug! Pandora! Watch out for the tail-hook. He’s a Navy guy! LOL !

Wow! Someone who actually takes charge. I am seriously impressed. Perhaps Mr. Baldwin could hold classes for a certain districts’ board members and administration.
Well done, Mr. Baldwin.
Wow who knows, CSW the Red Clay read-headed stepchild might make it to full family status.
Here is his E-mail cbaldwin@charterschool.org and everybody in Red Clay please E-mail him and thank him for being there for Red Clay students as promised!
you gonna give him a pas on this crap Kilroy?:
The amazing gift by Bank of America ( Bracebridge Building IV of the downtown old MBNA complex) to the Longwood Foundation, merited more news coverage. This building, which will be used for education, will allow for successful models to replicate in Delaware (KIPP, Montessori). Schools will be established in the inner city and provide educational opportunities for thousands of our children. DuPont and Bank of America are committing million of dollars in resources and are truly “putting their money where their mouth is” when it comes to education reform. BRAVO ZULU to all involved with this initiative.
Yea I’ll give him a little for stepping up for Red Clay students!

Kipp CEO Richard Barth wife Wendy Kopp !
KIPP is CRAP. Thank you, drive through.
Wendy Kopp’s Teach for America is crap also!
A friend got suckered into TFA. Called it the worst year of his life. He went on the Xanex & scotch diet. Lousy money, no support, horrific kids
and a dewildering look from his principal when he told her he’d rather sell shoes then ever again be part of TFA.
I forgot, at teacher happy hours they’d all talk about how they were on the XS diet. (the xanex and scotch)
In all seriousness- it is very important that Paul Harrel look very very closely at the Achievement Results from Kipp schools in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Maryland and compare those results to schools that serve the same population but have much higher results. Kipp is a marketing machine but the results when analazed are not competitive with other Charter Models. Paul thinks bringing Kipp to Wilmington is the answer to everything and he has not done his homework to compare apples to apples- he needs to justify his passion for Kipp with actual achievement results.
Looking at the program “Interrupted” on PBS last week it was obvious that the city folks in Chicago had assembled to solve City problems. This was the plan for Theo and Moyer. Theo was a City Person trying to solve City problems and he had success that was not measured or respected by Dover. If we measured Theo by the number of his students that were arrested vs Christina- Theo would have been a Superior School.
Everyone needs to take a hard look at the sucess of institutions like TFA in trying to solve City Problems vs City People trying to solve their own problems and see the difference. Putting another TFA School like Kipp in the BOA Building is like sending another ship of white folks to Aftica in 1880 to take over- it does not work as a sustainable solution. Put money and faith in the folks that live in the City to find a way to serve and support their own people and you have another sucess story like Kummba…
