Police charge teacher, 3 students after fight at Moyer Academy
“While Cpl. Esterling was attempting to take the combatant student into custody, an unknown teacher along with two unknown other students began to push Cpl. Esterling and attempted to remove the combatant student from the grasp of the officer.” Tull said
Governor Markell needs to step in here and pay for additional SROs in Moyer. Our SROs walk into schools everyday prepared to put their lives on the line to protect student and staff. To have a teacher “attack” the SRO is unthinkable and to add insult to injury the same teacher allows other students to join in the attack. The SRO at Moyer is a Wilmington Police Officer. He had to call for backup ! The parents of the students involved and who may have been spectator should be thankful the SRO / Wilmington Police Officer acted professional and not used deadly force to protect himself.
As far as, names of those involved and specifics on the charges were not released” If they are adults there names should be released. The odds are the only adult was the teacher and parents have a right to know who is standing in the way of law enforcement who are assigned to help and protect their children.
I wonder if Mayor Baker will grow some balls to comment on this unthinkable crime or will he remain on his Jack Markell’s knees pads? Let’s see how all this will fade and be swept under the political rug.
