Obama White House BP communication glitch revealed

Did Arne Duncan have sex with Kangroos?

United States Secretary of Education jumps around with so many reform public education you think he had a kangaroo up his ass.

Hey Arne, we can’t pay for the current school day and school year. You want us to add programs to expand the school day and year and your butt buddy from Delaware Jack Markell doesn’t even want to fund student transportation, reading and math specialist, SROs, Driver’s Ed and even school nurses.

I repeat , Jack Markell will go down in Delaware’s history as the worst so-called education governor ever!  Markell sells Delaware’s public schools out to Washington , D.C. and is rewarded 100 million dollars in which he keeps $50 million dollars for Delaware DOE to create new jobs  for friends of his political bedfellows. We can’t even get funding from Markell for summer school for students who are failing let alone expand the school year.

To all you parents and concerned community members out there, do not vote for Chris Coons! Markell needs a clear hard ass message that he is not going to be rewarded for failing our school children. Where was Markell’s message to support Christina’s referendum? Jack doesn’t want to interfere with local control! Yea right Jack, perhaps you mean you don’t want anyone interfering with your’s and skippers’s goals of taking control at the local level.

Jack I’ll give you a B for efforts in addressing the economy but a big fat fucking F for education reforms. As far as dumping DSTP rookie it was the parents and the community that pushed that agenda. DSTP was out the door before you took office. For 10 years you sat back and didn’t step up and join the call to dump DSTP or the damn 3 tiered diplomas. So what does Markell do ? He signs Delaware up for so-called national core standards that will be linked to a national standardized test that is DSTP steroids.

Arne Duncan needs to go back to Australia where the Boston Celtics send him after not making the cut. Take Markell with you, he seems to like the down- under.

Go get Greeked !

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church invites the community
to celebrate its annual Greek Festival
, Tuesday June 1 – Friday June 4, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., at 9th and Broom Streets in Wilmington.Visitors will enjoy homemade Greek food and desserts, ethnic music and dance performances by the Award Winning Terpsechorian Dance Troupe. Admission is free.

Last year I attended the Greek Festival for the first time ever and I am hooked! The homemade food is out of this world.

My favorite foods are any lamb, Dolmades – (Grape leaf stuffed with ground beef, rice and seasonings), Loukoumades – (Honey Balls topped with cinnamon) and Kalamari – (Fried Squid served with lemon wedges)

Let me tell you about the Kalamari aka Calamari! Everywhere I go in my travels I always sample local Kalamari and I’ve rated Walter’s Steak House on Union Street as the world’s best Kalamari. I give Walter’s  a perfect 10 and  The Wilmington Greek Festival’s a 9.5. Might be a slight variation in seasoning but both are world class. The Kalamari stand is localed outside and it’s right from the hot oil to your mouth. Give it a try and you’ll be hooked!

Markell puts the screws to state employee’s pension and health care plans.

Markell wants new State of Delaware employees to pay more for pension and health benefits

Under Markell’s Health and Pension Protection Plan, workers who are hired by the state after January 1, 2011 would pay more for their pension and health benefits than current Delaware employees.

I wonder if this will apply to newly elected state officials? So every new school teacher hired after January 01, 2011 will pay more towards their pension and heath benefits! I wonder if local school districts will follow the governor’s lead and ask new teachers to pay  more on the local side? You don’t think local school labor contract will are for these expenses to be compensated on the district side?

One thing for sure all this will be a test for the current union leadership. I wonder if we’ll see bell to bell and protest in Dover to stop Markell. We’ve seen disintegration of union across the county when the old-timer leadership makes concession as long as it don’t impact current membership.

Teabagger network launched ! Who is the real Obama?

I got a kick out of this video! LOL !

USDOE Approval rating drops to 40% a 30 year low

Education Chief Vies to Expand U.S. Role as Partner on Local Schools

A new survey by the Pew Research Center found distrust of government at its highest level in 30 years. Of all federal agencies, the department of education’s approval rating had fallen most sharply, to 40 percent from 61 percent in 1998. In fact, the department got the lowest rating of any federal agency, including the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Duncan’s aides said the drop could reflect dissatisfaction with No Child Left Behind.

No more federal bailout for local teaching jobs

New $23 Billion for Teacher Subsidies Falters in House

A $23 billion payout to save thousands of educators’ jobs faltered Thursday — perhaps for good — to election-year jitters among moderate Democrats over deficit spending and only lukewarm support from the White House.

An extension of saving local teaching jobs with a federal bailout shouldn’t happen.  I don’t want to sound cold here but with governors like Delaware’s Jack Markell cutting state funding to local schools at a time of restoring pay cuts I don’t think the taxpayers should be tripled  taxed, one at he local, one at the state level and one at the federal level to reward failure in education fiscal mismanagement.

No doubt we can find waste at the local school district levels and even charter schools. However, we have waste at Delaware DOE and even the U.S. DOE. We are spending more money on managing public education in comparison to actual teaching than in anytime in american history. The United States Department of Education formed by President Carter has grown to an American insult. Public education has been hijacked by politics and federal funding is being used to serve political agendas. Same goes for Delaware’s Department of Education. But I must say, Governor Jack Markell has shifted Delaware’s public schools to serve the desires of the same business people who gave us DSTP. The education foundation Markell is setting will result in far greater damaged than any Delaware governor in the state’s history and pretty much combined.

Delaware’s means to fund public education is broken. Take a look at the funding of Delaware’s votech and traditional public schools. Can anybody guess why votechs don’t have referendums? Take a look at Christina’s referendum last week. Did you see any legislators  supporting the referendum? In my opinion there should be one set equal statewide property tax rate. The responsiblity of setting school tax rates should be that of the legislators. And yes, there should be some type of state educational sales tax  to fund ongoing school capital needs.

Our Governor wants to control the direction and regulations of public schools but doesn’t seemed to have the answers to fundamentally change school finances. As far as school district consolidation, this doesn’t require a law passed by the state legislators. The Delaware State Board of Education has the authority to restore countywide school districts. I support the current local control arrangement. However, it seems Governor Markell’s string pulling all leads back to local school boards. Not insulting local board members as they have no real say in state regulations but we need to see more school board members stepping up breaking the mold. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears when Kim Williams and Jack Buckley two Red Clay school board member asked some bold questions of Governor Jack Markell during the New Castle Combined School Boards meeting on May 17, 2010. And let’s not forget board members John and Liz over at Christina School District. They had the courage to go the Delaware AG’s office to question their own open board meeting process.

Using more federal bailout money to prevent teacher layoffs in Delaware does not address the real problems in the financing of Delaware schools and perhaps if there were more controls in place that mandates the level of spending in management which includes many consultants and teaching units perhaps we wouldn’t be losing teaching positions.

When it comes to money for public schools it seems it’s always for the kids. However, in the case of federal bailout by a federal system that doesn’t require a balanced budget the kids will paying the debts of those micromanaging education.

Delaware education will come down to a checklist of funding priorities and we are starting to see it. Cuts in state funding Driver’s Education and Reading and Math Specialist are on the table. If Markell feels these programs aren’t a necessity then why should the local school boards? A day will come that parents will be asked to pay for extra curricula  activities such as sports.

What burns me the most is Red Clay signed a contract with Teach for America for $300,000.00 over an above the salaries and benefits of 6 Teach for America Teachers. And if you didn’t know even though these 6 are classified as regular legal Red Clay “employees”  they are not subjected to being layed off or riffed. How fair is this to those who chose education as a lifetime committment. If Red Clay’s or any other school district’s HR manager don’t have the skills to selected well qualified teachers perhaps it’s time to send the HR manager packing.

How about if we rethink Delaware DOE and question why we need over 200 employees plus consultants?

The reality of any federal bailout is, we’re pouring more money into a system that is leaking (wasting) money. Saving a teachers job for one years is noble but purging all the wasteful management and their support will released funding to keep teachers longterm.

Why is Markell refusing public request

Markell is refusing to make an executive order ordering all school districts, charter schools and the Delaware State Board of Education to put full digital recordings of their board meetings on the district’s / charter school’s and DOE’s  website.

If Jack wants the public to know the truth about education he needs to turn the fucking light on! Or pehaps Markell wants to hide the truth!

Jack, sorry we didn’t get a chance to talk at the combinded school board meeting on the 17th. I was offered a second plate of food if I behaved myself. But I was glad and proud that two Red Clay board members asked some bold questions.

Delaware government: JFC opposes Markell’s school transportation cuts

But Gov. Jack Markell’s proposal to cut $20.4 million in school transportation costs by requiring school districts to foot 25 percent of the bill — and allowing them to raise taxes without a referendum to recover the money — faces a rough road with the JFC.

“People aren’t stupid,” They’re going to recognize that the General Assembly gave them this authority” to raise taxes, said Sen. Bruce Ennis, D-Smyrna.
