Breaking news! Names of Delaware turnaround schools revealed

The names are:

Warner Elementary School (Red Clay)

Bancroft Elementry School (Christina)

Pulaski Elementry School (Christina)

Stubbs Elementry School (Christina)

Positive Outcome Charter School

Three of these school will begin their turnaround next school year 2010-2011.

From a Dover source it appears the superindents of these school district knew about the selection but were ask not to tell their board members.

I’ve been told there has been communication with Teach for America about their role in purging some of the ineffective teachers out of these turnaround schools. Comments were made that with TFA coming in at the lowest pay grade the extra funding could be better served in the turnaround plan. Yea right ! Let’s not forget the payday the TFA organization receives. Hey preacher boy, better get some desk lined up at WU.

To all you school boards out there, it time to put the dog collars on you district supers! Why are they agreeing to school turnaround plans without including the boards in the process and decisions? You better “demand” you super to include you or else when the turnaround plan pisses parents off you’ll be the one hearing the shit!

Education is moving to a new era where school board become puppets of the superintendents Why you ask? Because, f’ing up the local gears that run local schools will support the all for more charter schools. You are being setup to fail! When you all voted on the MOU, you did so at the request of your superintendent. The bottom line is, who is working for who.

I hope our State Auditor keeps his pencil sharpened because money is going to be uncontrollable in all directions.

Though I have my issue with Jack Markell I must tip my hat to his masterful takeover of our schools.

To a special fool out there, I know all about you steak dinners with some SES providers! Shame on you!

To the idiots down at DOE, shred your shit before you put it in you trash cans. I can tell you this, someone big at DOE will be terminated with what’s about to be exposed. I suggest friend you bail before it get’s exposed.

FYI the reason why so many turnaround school in Wilmington is because of politics as in helping a certain democrat get elected in Wilmington. Same goes for closing Moyer. Watch who comes out in Wilmington proclaiming it was they who moved the Wilmington school turnaround agenda.

Teacher’s unions left out in the cold

How the GOP Sees It

NEWSWEEK

“Democrats, long focused on school integration and protecting teachers’ unions, were slow to come around. Over the last decade, as proof grew that some of these ideas were working, Democrats began embracing many reforms first floated by the GOP.”

“Most Republicans have good things to say about Education Secretary Arne Duncan; like Obama, he sides with the GOP on charter schools. And Republicans largely approve of the president’s plans for revising Bush’s No Child Left Behind program. Checker Finn, a senior fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution and an education official in the Reagan administration, believes that amid all the acrimony in Washington, “education may be the one significant policy domain where the Obama agenda is winning reasonable points from a lot of Republicans, myself included.” It may not be enough to stop the shouting. But it’s a place to start.”

Markell ; Liar, Liar pants on fire!

Delaware government: House bill addresses education of disabled

The bill, H.B. 328, would amend Title 14 of Delaware’s code to expand on what it means for disabled students to receive a “free appropriate public education” while prohibiting state courts, districts and a state appeals panel from rolling back those standards.

New Castle County Combined Board of Education Meeting

The New Castle County Combined Boards of Education Meeting will be held on  Friday February  26, 2010 – 7:30 am at the Christiana Hilton Hotel.
“Gov. Jack Markell will be our guest)”

I don’t know what is going on here, last month the Red Clay School Board posted this meeting notice on their website :

http://www.redclay.k12.de.us/boardmeetings0910/meetings/combinedboards/1-22-10%20Meeting%20Agenda.pdf

No mention of  this month’s meeting coming this Friday February 26, 2010.

Last month’s meeting was amazing and enlightening. I never knew this organization existed and Red Clay Board Member Kim Williams was kind enough to share with the public. Last month the was a panel of state legislators who took questions in regard to public education. This month Governor Jack Markell will be the guest speaker. Also, I like to make not excluding the legislators on the panel, there were other state legislators in attendance.

Those who know me know I don’t get intimidated too easy however,  when I attended this meeting last month I was the only member of the public in attendance. There was a buffet breakfast (paid with our tax dollars) set up and each table had a sign designating  each school district. I do believe the tables were set up for the school board members and district representative. I sensed this and even asked Merv what the deal was. I figured I’d leave the room and wait until 8:00 am when the public session started. However, a wonderful board member from another school district insisted I come in for the breakfast and even secured a seat at another school district’s table. However, Merv invited me to sit at Red Clay’s table. Hopefully, Kim will tell you I was fairly well dressed and well-behaved. There is a time to pick and choose your battle fields and this is not the place. Though I am sometimes a hard-ass critic of Red Clay and legislators, these are not the forums to sound-off.  I’ve been to many events publicly and politically and know how to gauge my tone.

So now I have a dilemma, this meeting isn’t in a public notice but I know with board members being elected official they can’t meet behind closed-door unless in executive session. They however do meet for various training events and conferences. The New Castle County Combined Boards of Education is a public organization and is funding by each school district’s taxpayers through membership fees and I feel are subject to open meeting laws. I want to attend to hear Markell’s address to this group and if given the chance as  last meeting, I would like to ask respectful questions regarding education. It was also nice to network state legislators on education issues. I enjoyed various chats with local legislators. In fact House Speaker Rep. Bob Gilligan and Senator Sorenson sat at Red Clay’s table. Do make note, they were not assigned to seat at any table. I noticed Red Clay’s table had a few open seats due to other board members attending another important event or training. So I invited both legislators to sit at Red Clay’s table. Rep Gilligan and I are of different political parties however both live in the 19th RD. This forum was about our community Red Clay and there comes a time for all of us to work together. This place in not and was not the place to debate political ideology.

I support The New Castle County Combined Boards of Education because our board members and administrators do need to network. I did sense partnership in regards to pooling some purchasing power together as the LEAD report suggest. I did sense some apprehension on the Race to The Top issues.

So I plan on attending Friday’s meetings and hopefully they have a extra table set up for any public member who wishes to attend. However, if invited to Red Clay’s or another schools distirct’s table I’ll be gald to accept. Who know perhaps Governor Markell will ask me to join him at his table.  If anyone else plans to attend I suggest not to use this event as a bitch session however, it’s you freedom of speech. Me, I know the forums to bitch and not bitch.

FYI, I don’t plan on being a regular at these meetings but reserve the right to attend when our legislators or governor plan to participate such as on panels or guest speakers. You just can’t rely on blogs for information, you need to get out there and engage :)
