Only is Delaware does a state representative gets refused information filed under the Freedom of Infomation Act and only Delaware does a sitting governor know of this injustice refuse to step up.

“On August 5, 2009 at 2pm, State Rep. Greg Lavelle(R-Sharpley) filed a state Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with Gov. Jack Markell seeking more information on the employment of former Dept. of Health and Social Services (DHSS) Sec. Vince Meconi.”
“It defies common sense that we need to pay someone more than $73,000 per year to track stimulus moneywhen we already have the Lt. Governor’s office, our congressional delegation, and the collective staffs of all our state departments overseeing this process,” Rep. Lavelle said. “If we need Mr. Meconi’s services, I think it’s reasonable that taxpayers should know exactly what they’re getting for their money.”
I am pretty sure Lavelle is being dicked around because he is the number one Republican contender for the Delaware governor’s race 2012. Rep. Levelle and former Senator Charles Copeland introduced legislation in 2008 calling for public school checkbooks online which failed to get out of committee. Then in 2009 Levelle stepped up again but the governor make an executiveorder calling for the same. However, Levelle said fine however executiveorders can be reveressed. Incomes HB119 in which Levelle support that made online checkbooks for public schools and charter schools law.
But what is important here is, state government at the highest level blocks FOIArequest for state representatives. So what message does than send the public. So much for open government in Delaware. Will the attorney generals office investigate? Well I doubt that because our state Attorney General Beau Biden is off fighting for FIOA for the people of Iraq. Perhaps he needs to lead by example and ensure Delaware state legislators are provided with requested information. Hey Ferris Wharton, get those AG campaign signs ready! I’ll help you put them out but I am driving, lol !
