DSTP Helter Skelter

This coming school year will be the last year for the DSTP test. Since 1997 I’ve called DSTP a social whipping post beating children for the failures of adults. Students were fed a bullshit bill of goods how important DSTP was. Many students were held back based on their DSTP scores and the high school dropout rate and graduation rate has increased since the onset of DSTP spring 1998.

Many of the same legislators who supported and sponsored DSTP now call it a major mistake. Personally I think those sponsoring legislators pushed the flawed plan to justify the expansion of charter schools. They were looking for creditable justification to expand charter schools. These legislators trashed and burned public education with DSTP that had knowing to do with NCLB.

Not one DSTP sponsoring legislator has step up an apologized for their error in judgment, refusal to listen to educational experts, for blaming public school teachers for the failure of DSTP and for harming children.

I have a hunch it will be payback time and students will say screw DSTP this school year the last for DSTP. Students know DSTP is flawed and invalid. I think it would be great if students boycotted DSTP that would force some schools to reorganize under the provisions of NCLB.

Delaware DOE and the governor will put out propaganda telling parents and students how important it is for them to do well on the DSTP. I am sure clueless parents will bite the hook and bitch at their kids to do well on a test that flawed. Don’t forget the new state assessment test is being piloted this year. God bless our public school teachers who have been kicked around by legislators and the business community. Teachers have a lot of work to do to prepare for the new assessment test and still deal will the DSTP flawed bullshit.

It’s kind of sad that my republican friends spent so much time kicking teachers down for failures that we obviously brought on by failed legislation driven by the business round table. It really had nothing to do with education but more with politics in that DSEA refused to endorse republican candidates. DSEA is perhaps the strongest and most organized labor organization in that serves state education workers. It only makes sense to bring down the strongest union as the others will fall like dominos. The state legislators have the power to end the protectionism of inadequate teachers and they refuse to enact laws. Our public teachers are not overpaid and surely are under appreciated.

In my opinion DSTP was enacted just to undermine public school teachers. We all know DSTP forces teachers to teach to the test. They did what they were ordered to do but yet are blamed for the negative results. With the passage of DSTP the Delaware State Legislators land former Governor Tom Carper were led around by their noses by the business round table. Tom Carper would have never been elected to the U.S. Senate if it wasn’t for the payback by the business round table.

Our children were used a pawns in a political war and suffer at the hands of DSTP. I honestly hope that every student taking the DSTP dumb down as a payback to the legislators.  It’s time to turn the tables and give the nightmares to the legislators and managers of education.
